At the center are dark Mega-Entwicklung Pokémon-ex, led by Mega-Darkrai-ex. They are joined by other powerful Pokémon, special illustrations, and new cards for Collectors and Players.

The set will be released on July 17, 2026, bringing Mega-Entwicklung back to the Pokémon TCG. Anyone who likes dark designs, powerful Pokémon-ex, and special Illustration Rares should definitely keep an eye on Dunkelnacht.

In this article, we take a look at what is currently known about Pokémon Mega-Entwicklung – Dunkelnacht, which cards could be particularly exciting, and who might benefit from Booster, Booster Bundles, or other products from the set.

When will Pokémon Mega-Entwicklung – Dunkelnacht be released?

The official Release of Pokémon Mega-Entwicklung – Dunkelnacht is July 17, 2026. From this date, products from the expansion are scheduled to be regularly available. For pre-orders, shipping is generally scheduled for the Release so that Collectors and Players can start with the new set as close to launch as possible.

Especially with popular Pokémon sets, it is worth keeping an eye on availability early on. New main sets with powerful Pokémon, special illustrations, and popular motifs can quickly become sought-after. This is especially true when a set has a clear theme and contains several cards that appeal to both Collectors and Players.

What is Dunkelnacht about?

The name Dunkelnacht already reveals where the journey is headed: the set focuses on a dark, mysterious atmosphere. At the center is Mega-Darkrai-ex, a Pokémon that fits this theme perfectly. Darkrai has been one of the most popular Mythical Pokémon for many years and is particularly associated with nightmares, shadows, and darkness.

That exact atmosphere is what makes Dunkelnacht interesting for Collectors. Pokémon sets are defined not only by powerful cards, but also by their theme. A set with a clear dark focus stands out visually from brighter, more playful expansions and may appeal especially to fans of Darkrai, Ghost Pokémon, Dark-type Pokémon, and intense artwork.

In addition to Mega-Darkrai-ex, further Mega Evolution Pokémon-ex such as Mega-Zeraora-ex, Mega-Chandelure-ex, and Mega-Excadrill-ex have also been announced. This means Dunkelnacht brings not just one highlight, but several major names.

The return of Mega-Entwicklung remains exciting

Mega-Entwicklung is one of the most popular mechanics among many Pokémon fans. It represents especially powerful forms of familiar Pokémon and often comes with spectacular designs. In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Mega Evolution Pokémon-ex are therefore not only interesting from a gameplay perspective, but also real visual highlights.

Dunkelnacht continues this Mega era, focusing on Pokémon that fit the set's darker style perfectly. Mega-Darkrai-ex is likely to be the clear centerpiece of the expansion for many Collectors. At the same time, Pokémon such as Mega-Zeraora-ex and Mega-Excadrill-ex ensure that the set is not reduced to a single chase Pokémon.

Mega Evolution Pokémon-ex are also exciting for Players because they generally come with high HP, powerful attacks, and striking effects. At the same time, they involve greater risk, as powerful Pokémon-ex are often particularly valuable targets for the opponent in the game. This combination of power and risk is exactly what makes them interesting.

How many cards does Pokémon Dunkelnacht contain?

The expansion contains over 115 cards. These include more than 20 Trainer cards and over 35 cards featuring special Pokémon and Trainer illustrations. This means Dunkelnacht appeals not only to Players looking for new Trainer cards and powerful Pokémon for their decks, but also to Collectors hoping for Illustration Rares, Special Illustration Rares, and special artwork.

The Illustration cards in particular are likely to play a major role in this set. A dark theme offers plenty of room for striking motifs: shadows, night, glowing effects, mysterious landscapes, and intense Pokémon poses. Darkrai, Chandelure, and Zeraora in particular have plenty of visual potential when it comes to their artwork.

Which cards ultimately become the set's biggest highlights usually only becomes clear once more artwork and card lists are known. Even now, however, it is clear that Dunkelnacht contains enough special cards to make it exciting for Collectors.

Which cards could be particularly sought after?

With every new Pokémon set, the question quickly arises: Which cards will be the chase cards? In Dunkelnacht, the Mega Evolution Pokémon ex are naturally the focus. Mega-Darkrai ex in particular is likely to be highly sought after because Darkrai has a strong fan base and fits the set's theme perfectly.

Mega-Zeraora ex could also attract a lot of attention. Zeraora is a popular Mythical Pokémon with a dynamic design that lends itself well to energetic artwork. If Zeraora receives a special illustration or a visually striking rare variant, this card could quickly become one of the most popular cards in the set.

Mega-Chandelure ex also fits Dunkelnacht's dark style perfectly. Chandelure has plenty of potential for impressive illustrations thanks to its Ghost- and Fire-type aesthetic. Mega-Excadrill ex also brings a different direction to the set as a powerful Pokémon and could be particularly interesting for Players.

In addition to the Pokémon ex, Collectors should also keep an eye on the special Trainer cards. Trainer cards with strong illustrations are often very popular in modern Pokémon sets, especially when they feature well-known characters or particularly atmospheric scenes.

Who is Dunkelnacht especially worthwhile for?

Dunkelnacht is a set that appeals to several target groups. For Collectors, the theme is particularly exciting. Darkrai, dark motifs, Mega Evolutions, and special illustrations create a combination with strong collecting appeal.

The set could be interesting for Players because new Pokémon ex and Trainer cards may open up fresh possibilities for decks. Not every card is known in detail yet, but Mega Evolution Pokémon ex have historically brought strong stats and striking game mechanics. Anyone who enjoys trying out new strategies should keep an eye on Dunkelnacht.

The set can also be a good choice for Beginners. A Booster Bundle or individual Booster offer an easy entry point without having to buy a complete Booster Display right away. Anyone who simply enjoys opening new packs gets an atmospheric set with many potential highlights in Darknight.

Booster, Booster Bundle, or Booster Display: Which Is Right for You?

With new Pokémon sets, the question often arises as to which product is best suited. That depends on whether you mainly want to collect, play, or simply open Booster.

3 Pack Blister

Individual Booster are a good choice if you want to get a first taste of the set. The 3 Pack Blister is ideal for in between, as a small gift, or if you simply want to open a few packs without buying a larger product right away. It also contains a Bithora card.

Booster Bundle

A Booster Bundle is a good middle ground for many Collectors. It contains several Booster packs but remains more compact than a Booster Display. This makes it especially appealing to anyone who wants more opening fun than with individual Booster, but does not want to buy a large quantity right away.

Booster Display

A Booster Display is more suitable for Collectors and Players who want to open many Booster. Anyone wanting to collect a set more extensively or hoping for specific cards often chooses a Booster Display. Of course, it is also the larger investment.

Elite Trainer Box

Top Trainer Boxes are particularly popular because they combine Booster with Accessories. Depending on the product, these may include Card Sleeves, Dice, Energy cards, a Trading card storage box, and other contents. They are practical for Players and often interesting to Collectors because of the box, the design, and possible promo cards.

Darknight for Collectors: Why the Set Has Potential

For Collectors, three points are particularly exciting about Darknight: the theme, the Pokémon selection, and the special illustrations. A dark set featuring Mega Darkrai ex as its centerpiece has a clear identity. Such sets often remain more memorable than expansions without a distinct focus.

In addition, Darkrai is popular with many fans. Pokémon with a strong fan base often have an advantage with Trading cards because they are sought after not only for gameplay reasons but also emotionally. If a strong artwork or a rare variant is added, a card can quickly become a set highlight.

The more than 35 cards featuring special Pokémon and Trainer illustrations also make Dark Night interesting for Binder Collectors. Modern Pokémon sets are heavily collected for their artwork. Many fans do not just want to own the rarest cards, but above all the most beautiful designs.

Dark Night for Players: New cards for fresh strategies

Even though Collectors often look at the rare cards first, Dark Night could also be exciting from a gameplay perspective. New Pokémon-ex and Trainer cards can improve existing Decks or enable entirely new strategies.

Mega-Entwicklung Pokémon-ex in particular should stand out in gameplay. They usually bring high attack values and powerful effects, but must be used wisely. Anyone who relies solely on raw power can be punished quickly. However, those who incorporate Mega-Pokémon-ex sensibly into their Deck can set up highly pressuring plays.

The set’s Trainer cards should not be underestimated either. In many Pokémon formats, it is often not just the big Pokémon that make a Deck strong, but the right Trainer cards. They provide consistency, speed, and better plays.

Dark Night could become a strong set for Collectors and Players

Pokémon Mega-Entwicklung – Dark Night has many of the ingredients that make an exciting set: a clear dark theme, Mega-Darkrai-ex as a powerful centerpiece, additional Mega-Entwicklung Pokémon-ex, and numerous special illustrations. The set should be especially interesting for Collectors who enjoy atmospheric artwork and popular Pokémon.

At the same time, Dark Night also offers potential for Players. New Pokémon-ex, Mega-Entwicklung Pokémon, and Trainer cards can provide fresh momentum for Decks. Which cards will ultimately be particularly strong or sought-after will become clear once more details and card lists are known.

If you want to open the set at Release, you should keep an eye on availability early on. Whether Booster Bundle, individual Booster packs, Booster Display, or Elite Trainer Box: Dark Night is a set that is likely to appeal to many Pokémon fans.
