Cyberpunk TCG: Everything about the new trading card game from Night City

Cyberpunk TCG: Alles zum neuen Trading Card Game aus Night City

Night City is getting its own Trading card game. With the official Cyberpunk Trading Card Game, WeirdCo and CD PROJEKT RED are bringing the world of Cyberpunk 2077, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, and the broader Cyberpunk universe to the card table. For Collectors, TCG Players, and fans of the series, it's a particularly exciting mix: familiar characters, completely new artwork, a standalone rule system, and a Kickstarter success that has attracted considerable attention in the Trading Card scene.

In this article, you'll get a concise yet detailed overview of Cyberpunk TCG. It covers the story behind the project, the world of Night City, the first products, known cards, basic rules, Deck building, and why you should keep an eye on the game as a Collector or Player. If you don't want to miss any news about the Release, you can already pre-order Cyberpunk TCG through the category at cardcosmos and sign up for updates.

What is Cyberpunk TCG?

Cyberpunk TCG is the official Trading Card Game for CD PROJEKT RED's Cyberpunk brand. It is being developed by WeirdCo in close collaboration with CD PROJEKT RED. According to the official press release, the game is bringing the Cyberpunk franchise to the market as a physical Trading Card Game for the first time. This is important because this is not a digital card game or merely a licensed product featuring familiar imagery, but a genuine TCG with Deck building, boosters, Starter decks, rules, and collectible value.

The game is advertised on the official website with the motto “Build your crew. Earn your legend.” That is exactly what the gameplay revolves around: You assemble a crew of Edgerunners, Legends, Units, Gear, and Programs and try to secure enough Gigs in Night City to become a legend. You face another player, attack their crew, steal Gigs, and use resources such as Eddies and Street Cred to carry out your strategy.

The first set is called Welcome to Night City and focuses on characters from Cyberpunk 2077. Officially announced characters include V, Johnny Silverhand, Jackie Welles, and Judy Álvarez. Cards featuring Goro Takemura, Saburo Arasaka, Yorinobu Arasaka, Panam Palmer, Adam Smasher, Evelyn Parker, Alt Cunningham, and Lucyna Kushinada have also already appeared in the official card database or in product information.

The story behind the project

The launch of Cyberpunk TCG was anything but quiet. The Kickstarter campaign launched on March 17, 2026. It was clear shortly after launch that interest was enormous. Various reports cite an original funding goal of 100,000 US dollars, which was reached within just a few minutes. By the end of the campaign, the project was reportedly said to have raised around 26.95 million US dollars from 47,676 backers, according to several industry reports. This makes Cyberpunk TCG one of the biggest crowdfunding successes a Trading card game has achieved so far. Through the so-called "Late Pledge", people can still support the project until May 1, and the total has meanwhile already surpassed 27.9 million US dollars.

The success did not come out of nowhere. Cyberpunk 2077 evolved significantly after its difficult launch and built a very active fan base through updates, Phantom Liberty, and the anime series Cyberpunk Edgerunners. That fan base is now meeting a TCG scene that has grown significantly in recent years. Alongside classics such as Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and Yu Gi Oh, new games such as Disney Lorcana, Star Wars Unlimited, and Riftbound have joined the market. Cyberpunk TCG is launching into this environment with a strong brand, plenty of attention, and clear collector appeal.

It is also interesting that WeirdCo is involving the community at an early stage. The official website actively refers to Discord, the newsletter, and feedback from Players. The rules published so far come from an alpha product and may still change before the final Release. That is normal for a new TCG, but it should be kept in mind when reading early cards and rules text.

The World: Night City as a TCG Setting

Cyberpunk thrives on its world. Night City is loud, dirty, dangerous, exaggerated, and full of style at the same time. That is exactly what makes the brand so interesting for a Trading card game. Instead of generic fantasy classes, you get Fixers, Mercs, Corporations, Netrunners, Cyberware, weapons, programs, and iconic characters from a world where fame and downfall are often close together.

In Cyberpunk TCG, you do not simply play a hero with hit points. You lead a crew. Your cards represent characters, equipment, technical tricks, and tactical plays. Gigs represent jobs that your crew accepts and defends. Eddies are the currency you use to pay for cards. Street Cred reflects how well-known and influential your crew has become in Night City.

This fits the original theme quite well. In Cyberpunk 2077, it is rarely just about defeating someone in direct combat. It is about gigs, reputation, contacts, power plays, and how far you are willing to go to avoid going under in Night City. The TCG translates this idea into a game system in which you secure gigs, plan risky attacks, and constantly balance your crew between offense, defense, and building up resources.

Which products are known so far?

Several products from the first set, Welcome to Night City, are already known for Cyberpunk TCG. At cardcosmos, you can currently find regular retail products and separate beta versions: two Booster displays, two Starter decks, and one regular and one beta Pre-Release Kit. The Kickstarter and beta products differ in some respects from the later retail products, as they can contain a beta symbol and exclusive artwork variants according to the official FAQ. This is particularly exciting for Collectors, as early beta products may develop their own appeal over the long term.

Welcome to Night City Booster displays

The Booster Display is the classic product for Collectors and deck builders. The Cyberpunk TCG: Welcome to Night City Booster Display in English is the regular retail version with 24 Boosters and 12 cards per Booster. For Collectors of early product variants, there is also the Cyberpunk TCG: Welcome to Night City Beta Booster Display in English with 36 Boosters. Since the retail and beta versions differ in configuration and labeling, you should pay close attention to the respective product name when purchasing.

Starter Deck The Heist

The Cyberpunk TCG: Welcome to Night City Starter Deck "The Heist" in English is one of the first known Starter Decks. Thematically, it revolves around Night City Mercenaries and characters from the core of Cyberpunk 2077. Retailer and Kickstarter information associates the Deck with V, Jackie Welles, and Viktor Vektor. The preconstructed 40-card Deck also contains three Legend cards and six Dice. This makes it particularly interesting if you want to play right away without having to open Booster or build your own Deck first.

Starter Deck Embracing Power

The Cyberpunk TCG: Welcome to Night City Starter Deck "Embracing Power" in English is the second known Starter Deck and focuses more strongly on Arasaka. Characters such as Saburo Arasaka, Yorinobu Arasaka, and Goro Takemura are mentioned. This product also contains a ready-to-play 40-card Deck, three Legend cards, and six Dice. If you prefer Corpo intrigue, control, and Arasaka flair, this Deck is likely exactly the right thematic entry point for you.

Welcome to Night City Prerelease Kits

For Sealed Play, first events, and an early entry into the set, there are two different variants. The Cyberpunk TCG: Welcome to Night City Prerelease Kit in English is the regular retail version. In addition, the Cyberpunk TCG: Welcome to Night City Beta Prerelease Kit in English is offered as a separate product from the early beta phase. Both kits contain six Booster, three Legend cards, a limited Promo Card, and a Dice set. The key difference lies in the respective retail or beta version.

Beta Box and Kickstarter Extras

The Beta Box was a special element of the Kickstarter campaign. According to the official FAQ, backers at certain Pledge levels receive a box with additional contents such as a Booster Pack, a zoned rubber playmat, unlocked Legend cards from Stretch Goals, and other extras. There were also special Lucy cards for early newsletter sign-ups and Kickstarter followers. Such promos are often particularly interesting for Collectors because they are clearly tied to an early phase of the game.

Accessories and collector products

The official FAQ also mentions Binder options, Box Toppers, regional shipping hubs, and Accessories. This is a good sign for Collectors, because a TCG is about more than just Boosters: it also relies on presentation, protection, and long-term availability. At cardcosmos, you can also find matching Accessories such as Sleeves, Deck boxes, and Binder, so your Cyberpunk TCG cards can be properly protected right away.

How does the Cyberpunk TCG play?

The rules published so far come from the Alpha Gameplay Guide. This means that many core ideas are already clear, but individual details may still change before the final product. Even so, the guide already provides a very good picture of what makes the game special.

To play, you need a Cyberpunk TCG Deck and a set of six Dice: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20. These Dice are not just an accessory, but a central game element. They represent Gigs, or contracts, that your crew completes and defends. The goal of the game is to have at least six Gig Dice in your Gig area at the beginning of your turn. Then you win the game.

This is an exciting difference from many other TCGs. Instead of reducing life points to zero, you fight for contracts. You can protect your own Gigs or steal your opponent's Gigs through attacks. This creates a dynamic back-and-forth in which board control and timing are very important.

The most important card types

  • Legends: These are the central figures of your crew. They start face down and can be revealed during the game. They also determine important RAM limits during Deck building.
  • Units: Units are crew members who can attack, fight, and steal Gigs.
  • Gear: Gear is attached to Units and improves their abilities or stats. Examples include iconic weapons or cyberware.
  • Programs: Programs are one-time effects that are discarded after being played. They work similarly to tactical instant effects in other TCGs.

Eddies, Street Cred and Gigs

Eddies are the resource you use to pay for cards. Each card has a cost that you must pay with Eddies. Eddies are generated, among other ways, by selling cards from your hand. A sold card is placed face down in your Eddies area and can then be spent once per turn for one Eddie.

Street Cred is another important value. It is determined by the results on the Gig Dice in your Gig area. Some card effects become stronger or only activate once you have built up enough Street Cred. This makes Gigs count twice: You need them to win, and they also unlock stronger plays.

The sequence of a turn

According to the Alpha Guide, a turn broadly consists of a Ready Phase, Play Phase, and Attack Phase. At the beginning, you draw a card, take a Gig Die from the Fixer area, roll it, and place it in your Gig area. You then ready your exhausted cards. During the Play Phase, you can sell cards, reveal Legends, and play cards. During the Attack Phase, your Units either attack exhausted opposing Units or attack the Rival directly to steal Gigs.

What is particularly interesting is that ready Units cannot simply be attacked. Whoever attacks becomes vulnerable themselves. This creates a compelling risk decision: Do you attack to steal Gigs, or leave important Units ready so they remain protected or can react with Blocker effects?

Deck building: Three Legends and RAM as a limitation

Deck building in Cyberpunk TCG seems familiar at first glance, but brings its own ideas. According to the Alpha Guide, a built Deck uses exactly three Legend cards with different names. These are joined by 40 to 50 additional cards. You may play a maximum of three copies of any card. Your Legends also determine which colors and RAM values you may use in your Deck.

RAM is therefore a kind of Deck building limit. Depending on which Legends you choose, you gain access to certain card colors and stronger cards within those colors. This is reminiscent of the color systems of other TCGs, but feels very thematically appropriate because Cyberpunk already revolves heavily around technology, limits, systems, and upgrades.

For experienced TCG players, this could make Deck building very exciting. You build your Deck not just around a color or faction, but around the combination of your three Legends. For Collectors, this also means that Legend cards are likely to be especially important, because they not only feature well-known characters but are also true Deck building anchors.

Which cards and characters are already known?

At the time of the research, the official card database showed 48 cards from the Alpha Kit Set. These include well-known names from Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk Edgerunners, as well as equipment and programs. Examples include V as a Streetkid, Jackie Welles, Goro Takemura, Saburo Arasaka, Yorinobu Arasaka, Panam Palmer, Adam Smasher, Alt Cunningham, Evelyn Parker, T Bug, River Ward, Kerry Eurodyne, Meredith Stout, and Lucyna Kushinada.

Iconic equipment also fits perfectly into the game. Cards like Mantis Blades, Kiroshi Optics, Gorilla Arms, Sandevistan, Dying Night, and Satori show that cyberware and weapons are not merely visual fan service, but will become part of the Gear System. Programs like Cyberpsychosis, Reboot Optics, and Corporate Surveillance explore the technical side of the Cyberpunk world.

For Collectors, it is particularly exciting that the game is being promoted with new, specially created artwork. This makes a major difference. As a result, the cards do not look like screenshots from the game, but rather like standalone collectibles. Especially for popular characters like Johnny Silverhand, Lucy, Rebecca, David, V, or Adam Smasher, this could drive strong demand.

What about Cyberpunk Edgerunners?

The first set, Welcome to Night City, focuses primarily on Cyberpunk 2077. However, Cyberpunk Edgerunners is already firmly planned. According to the official press release, Set 2 will bring the characters from Cyberpunk Edgerunners fully into the game. This means fans can later expect characters like David Martinez, Lucy, Rebecca, and Maine.

This is an important point for the game's future. Edgerunners has brought many new fans to the Cyberpunk brand, and some of the series' characters have long been among the most popular figures in the entire universe. If Set 2 actually focuses heavily on Edgerunners, it could give the collector hype another significant boost.

Who is the Cyberpunk TCG worth it for?

The Cyberpunk TCG appeals to several groups at once. If you love Cyberpunk 2077 or Edgerunners, you get a new physical collectible from this world. If you are a TCG player, the Gig System feels fresh enough to stand out from classic life-point systems. If you are a Collector, beta symbols, exclusive artwork, promos, Starter decks, and early Booster products are especially interesting.

  • For Beginners: Starter decks like The Heist and Embracing Power offer an easy entry point.
  • For Players: The game focuses on crew building, timing, resource management, and tactical attacks.
  • For Collectors: New artwork, promos, possible alt arts, and early product versions make the TCG exciting.
  • For Cyberpunk fans: The combination of Night City, Edgerunners, Arasaka, cyberware, and familiar characters captures the essence of the brand.

Cyberpunk TCG brings many of the elements that make a new Trading card game exciting: a strong license, familiar characters, fresh artwork, its own game system, and a huge community launch through Kickstarter. The Gig Dice System in particular, the three Legends in Deck building, and the combination of Eddies, Street Cred, Gear, and Programs give the game its own identity.

It is also important to note that the rules and product details may change before the final Release. Nevertheless, what has been shown so far looks promising. Welcome to Night City focuses on Cyberpunk 2077, while Set 2 is already expected to incorporate Cyberpunk Edgerunners more prominently.
