Magic: The Gathering x Marvel Super Heroes – Alles zum epischen Crossover-Set 2026

When two giants collide, things get exciting. That is exactly what happens with Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes. The set brings the world of Marvel heroes and villains directly to the tabletop of Magic and is one of the biggest crossover Releases Magic has seen so far.

By now, much more is known about the set: Spoiler Season is underway, the key mechanics have been introduced, the product range has been confirmed, and many key characters and cards have already been revealed. In this article, you’ll find an up-to-date overview of the Release, Prerelease, mechanics, Commander decks, Booster Fun, collectible highlights, and the most important products for MTG Marvel Super Heroes.

Release & Prerelease - When Does Magic: The Gathering Release? | Marvel Super Heroes?

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes officially releases on June 26, 2026. The Prerelease Events run from June 19 to 25, 2026, making them the real starting point for the new set for many Players.

The set is also relevant digitally: Marvel Super Heroes launches on MTG Arena as early as June 23, 2026. The complete Card Image Gallery will be published during the preview phase, allowing a very precise look at all cards and variants shortly before Release.

One advantage for you: As a WPN Store, cardcosmos can already ship products for Prerelease. This means that, ideally, you can have your cards in your hands earlier than with the regular Release.

Marvel Meets Magic - What to Expect in the Set

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes is not a small supplemental product, but a full-fledged Magic set with a Marvel theme. It focuses on well-known Marvel heroes, iconic villains, major comic storylines, and mechanics that bring superpowers, teamwork, and secret identities to life through gameplay.

The set brings together characters from various corners of the Marvel Universe: classic Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Black Panther and Wakanda, Doctor Doom and his plans, gamma-infected characters surrounding Hulk, cosmic threats such as Galactus, and many other familiar names.

These heroes and characters are among those featured

Many key Marvel characters have already been revealed or confirmed in product and mechanics articles. These include:

  • Captain America
  • Iron Man
  • Thor
  • Black Panther / T’Challa
  • Bruce Banner and The Incredible Hulk
  • Human Torch / Johnny Storm
  • Invisible Woman / Sue Storm
  • Mister Fantastic / Reed Richards
  • The Thing / Ben Grimm
  • Namor the Sub-Mariner
  • The Sentry
  • Quicksilver
  • Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur

What's particularly exciting is that many characters don't just appear as familiar names but have been mechanically adapted to their Marvel identities. Secret Identity and transform cards, for example, fit characters like Bruce Banner, T'Challa, and other heroes with two sides very well.

The villains also play a major role

Of course, a Marvel set doesn't live by its heroes alone. The villains are also an important part of Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes. Doctor Doom is particularly prominent, playing a central role both in the main set and in the Commander section.

Among the confirmed villains and adversaries are:

  • Doctor Doom
  • Baron Helmut Zemo
  • Super-Skrull
  • Kang the Conqueror
  • Kang, Temporal Tyrant
  • Attuma, Atlantean Warlord

Major comic-book events and threats have also been turned into cards. These include World War Hulk, The Coming of Galactus, Thunderbolts Conspiracy, and Doom Reigns Supreme, for example. This makes the set feel less like a mere collection of characters and more like a playable cross-section of major Marvel moments.

The mechanics of MTG Marvel Super Heroes

By now, the set's key mechanics are known. They draw on typical Marvel themes: heroes power up, teams work together, villains pursue long-term plans, and some characters reveal multiple identities on double-faced cards.

Supercharge

Supercharge is a new ability that makes creatures stronger at the decisive moment. A Supercharge ability can be activated only once. One or more +1/+1 counters are put on the creature, often together with an additional effect.

Particularly interesting: If you activate Supercharge in the turn the creature entered the battlefield, the creature's mana cost is deducted from the activation cost. This creates a strong tempo element, forcing you to decide whether to get the most out of your character immediately or save the ability for later.

Teamwork

Teamwork is a perfect fit for Marvel. The mechanic appears on instants and sorceries and functions as an optional additional cost. To pay it, you tap untapped creatures whose total power is at least equal to the specified Teamwork value.

Depending on the card, Teamwork provides additional effects, stronger variants, or multiple modes. Cards like HULK SMASH! show very directly how the set translates comic-book action into Magic rules.

Plan

Plan is a new enchantment subtype. These cards accumulate plan counters over several turns and reward you when the plan has been fully carried out. With Doom’s Supremacy, for example, the plan advances when Villains enter the battlefield under your control.

This makes the mechanic particularly well suited to Doctor Doom and other Marvel villains: instead of building only immediate pressure, long-term plans are prepared that later culminate in a major effect.

Plot

The familiar plot mechanic returns. When a creature plots, you draw a card and then discard a card. If you discard a nonland card, the creature gets a +1/+1 counter.

This mechanic supports card selection and graveyard interactions and fits characters like Kang or Doctor Doom particularly well, as they do not simply fight but plan their moves in advance.

Modal Double-Faced Cards and Transformations

Secret identities are as much a part of Marvel as superpowers and costumes. That is why modal double-faced cards also play an important role. When casting one, you decide which side to play. There are also cards that can transform later.

Characters with a clear duality, such as Bruce Banner and Hulk or T’Challa and Black Panther, benefit particularly from this implementation. For Players, this means more flexibility and often highly thematic game moments.

Mjölnir, Worthy, and the Mind Stone

Individual cards also have their own special rules. Mjölnir, Thor’s Hammer, for example, checks whether a creature is worthy. A worthy creature is a legendary red and/or white creature that is not a Villain.

The next Infinity Stone is also part of the set: the Mind Stone. Like the Soul Stone before it, it can be “made usable.” Once that happens, its special ∞ ability becomes active and provides additional effects as the game progresses.

Commander in Focus - The Marvel Commander decks

Commander is one of the most popular Magic formats, and Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes directly supports Commander with four ready-to-play decks. Each Deck contains 100 cards, is ready to play out of the box, and brings Marvel characters with their own strategies to the Commander table.

The four confirmed Commander decks are:

  • Avengers Assemble
  • Wakanda Forever
  • The Fantastic Four
  • Doom Prevails

The Face Commanders and strategies are also known: Captain America, Team Leader leads the Avengers Deck and focuses on numerous Hero creatures. T’Challa, the Black Panther accelerates you toward artifacts and creature tokens. Mister Fantastic heads a four-color Fantastic Four Deck. Doctor Doom, King of Latveria brings a villainous Commander strategy centered around intrigue and Villain synergies.

The decks also include additional exciting legendary creatures and possible alternatives, including Iron Man, Armored Avenger, Lady Loki, Agent of Chaos, and Director Nick Fury.

Collectors can also get Collector’s Edition Commander decks. These contain the same card lists as the regular Commander decks, but all cards and Tokens come in Surge Foil. This makes them especially appealing to Players and Collectors looking for a particularly striking Commander Deck.

Scene Boxes: Heroes United and Villains Unleashed

The two Scene Boxes are especially exciting for collectors:

  • Heroes United
  • Villains Unleashed

Each Scene Box contains 6 traditional Foil borderless Scene cards that combine to create one continuous image. It also includes Art Cards, Play Booster, and a display easel. This makes the boxes not only interesting for gameplay, but also intended as display pieces for Marvel and Magic collectors.

Booster Fun & Collector Highlights

Visually, Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes is one of the most striking Magic sets of the year. The Booster Fun variants draw on various comic styles, classic Marvel artwork, and major scenes from the Marvel universe.

Borderless Classic Comic Cards

The Borderless Classic Comic Cards combine classic Marvel illustrations with Magic card design. There are 15 Mythic Rare Classic Comic Cards in total, 4 of which are double-faced. These cards are available only in traditional Foil and only in Collector Boosters. Regardless of the Booster language, they are always in English.

Borderless Source Material Cards

Borderless Source Material Cards combine familiar Magic reprints with original Marvel comic artwork. They also include versions of cards from the Marvel Secret Lair Superdrop, as well as popular reprints. In Play Boosters, non-foil Source Material Cards can appear approximately once every 24 Boosters, while Collector Boosters always contain one Source Material Card.

Borderless Scene Cards

In addition to the Scene Boxes, there are also Scene Cards in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters. These cards depict larger connected scenes, including scenes featuring the Fantastic Four, Daredevil in Hell's Kitchen, Captain America against HYDRA, gamma-infected characters, and a large 18-card scene centered on the battle for a Cosmic Cube.

Borderless Logo Cards, Showcase Panel Cards, and special lands

Other variants include Borderless Logo Cards, Showcase Panel Cards, Borderless Lands, and full-art basic lands in the style of City Calm and City Chaos. As a result, the set offers many collecting targets, not only from a gameplay perspective but also visually.

The Mind Stone as the Headliner Card

A particular highlight is The Mind Stone. The card appears in several variants, including a regular version, a Borderless Gauntlet version, and an extremely rare textless Cosmic-Foil version. This Cosmic-Foil version is limited to fewer than 150 copies and can only be found in Collector Boosters.

This is likely to make the set particularly interesting for Collectors of Magic Marvel cards, as it offers not only well-known characters, but also genuine chase cards and many different comic-style treatments.

Format legality: Where can you play MTG Marvel Super Heroes?

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes is not just a Collectors product, but is also relevant for gameplay. Cards with the main set symbol MSH are legal in all formats in which the set is allowed, including Standard. In addition, there are Eternal-legal cards from the MSC and MAR sections, which are particularly relevant for Commander, Legacy, and Vintage.

For Players, this means that many cards from the main set can be used directly in regular Constructed formats, while Commander products and certain additional cards are specifically intended for Eternal formats.

Who is Magic: The Gathering worthwhile for | Marvel Super Heroes?

The set appeals to several target groups at once:

  • Magic Players looking for new mechanics, Standard-legal cards, and exciting Commander options
  • Commander fans who want to try playable Marvel decks or new legendary creatures right away
  • Marvel fans who want to experience their favorite heroes and villains as real Magic cards
  • Collectors who are looking for special comic artwork, foils, Scene Cards, and chase cards
  • Beginners who find it easier to get into Magic through familiar characters

The Beginner Box, Jumpstart Booster, and Commander decks make getting started comparatively easy. At the same time, experienced Players will find plenty of depth through new mechanics, set synergies, and premium collector variants.

Why a Preorder may be worthwhile

Magic crossovers with major brands have traditionally been in high demand. With Marvel Super Heroes, there is also the fact that the set appeals to a particularly broad audience: Magic Players, Commander fans, Marvel Collectors, and comic fans.

If you want to secure specific products such as Collector Booster, Commander decks, Collector’s Edition Commander decks, or Scene Boxes, ordering early may be worthwhile. Limited or collector-focused products in particular often sell out faster than classic Booster products.

At cardcosmos, you have several advantages:

  • Shipping already possible for Prerelease
  • A wide selection of Marvel Magic Boosters, Commander decks, and special products
  • Secure packaging and reliable shipping
  • Products for Players, Collectors, and Beginners in one place

But the set's focus is clearly not just on collecting or Preorder. Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes really does bring a wealth of gameplay ideas that translate the Marvel theme into Magic in a meaningful way.

A set with huge potential

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes is one of the most exciting Magic sets of 2026. It combines familiar Marvel characters with authentic Magic mechanics, brings Commander decks for different play styles, plenty of Booster fun variants, and some of the year's most eye-catching Trading cards.

Supercharge, Teamwork, Plot, Scheming, and transforming double-faced cards ensure that the set not only feels like Marvel, but also stands out in terms of gameplay. Added to this are familiar storylines such as The Coming of Galactus, World War Hulk, and Doom Reigns Supreme, bringing major comic moments directly to the table.

Whether you play Magic, love Commander, collect Marvel, or simply want to experience a special crossover: This set offers plenty of reasons to take a closer look. Now there is really only one question left: Will you side with the heroes, or would you rather pursue Doom's next great plan?
